Inside a Fripp Island Sea Turtle Nest

It’s not every day you get to see a loggerhead turtle lay her eggs in a nest. When the Fripp Island Turtle Patrol walked out on the beach bright and early on Friday morning, what a surprise it was to find not one, but THREE sea turtle nests along Fripp Island Beach.
Turtle Patrol leader Janie Lackman got these amazing photos of what it looks like inside a newly built nest, as the momma turtle was laying her eggs.

With a red light, she was able to join the momma turtle inside the nest cavity and snap a few photos of the eggs being laid.
Please note that it is illegal to use flash photography on sea turtles at night unless you are specifically permitted to do so for research purposes. These images were captured by permitted individuals using only red light and later converted to black and white images for clarity.

Nature sure is beautiful.
