Hungry Heart fund is helping to feed displaced hospitality workers throughout the Lowcountry

Through a special partnership between The Lowcountry Strong Foundation, a fund of the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and Downtown Catering Company, the Hungry Heart fund is responding to the COVID-10 Pandemic by feeding local restaurant workers.

The Hungry Heart Fund was established to keep food on the tables of all who are unemployed or under-employed due to COVID-19-related restaurant closures by providing displaced hospitality workers with free meals at participating restaurants.

There are nearly 15,000 employees who work in the food and beverage industry who work in the Beaufort, Port Royal, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island. Out of those many are husband and wives who are both employed by the Hospitality Industry.

The burden is tremendous but together we can, and are, making a difference. ~ Leah McCarthy, Downtown Catering Company

Over 35 participating restaurants that serve these meals between Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head. The great  money not only assists the restaurant worker but it infuses cash flow into our area restaurants. The Hungry Heart Fund is a program designed for restaurants and their workers.

How do I get free meals:

Every Wednesday and Saturday, from 2-4 pm, ticket/voucher books can be obtained from one of the following locations by simply showing a pay stub from your hospitality job:

Beaufort | Fat Patties, 830 Parris Island Gateway

When you show your paystub for work in the hospitality industry, you will receive 1 book. Each book contains 7 tickets/vouchers. 1 ticket/voucher = 1 meal from a participating restaurant. You may obtain 1 book every 7 days.

A complete list of restaurants is posted on both Facebook and Instagram @HungryHeartReliefFund

Participating restaurants also have a yellow poster in their window for easy recognition.

Restaurant Participants:

Are they giving these meals away for free?

Some are! But most restaurants are exchanging the tickets/vouchers presented for an $8-$12 reimbursement from the Lowcountry Strong Foundation.
