Free Things To Do on Tybee Island

They say the best things in life are free, and that certainly rings true on Tybee Island. Add these cash-free activities to your list for a fun, cost-free stay!

1. Visit the Beach

Tybee is a pristine barrier island with several distinct beaches, each offering a different, yet equally enjoyable experience. North Beach, which is the first beach you’ll come across as you enter the island, is a great place to watch birds as well as cargo ships as they enter the ports in Savannah. Mid Beach, which extends from North Beach’s end to 14th street, is a good location to hunt for seashells and shark teeth. South Beach, which features the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, sees the most traffic and is a great hangout for people-watching, volleyball and dolphin-spotting. And Back River, which you’ll find at the very tip of the island, offers a secluded beach experience with a fishing pier and great views of Little Tybee.

2. Relax at a Park

The beaches aren’t all that Tybee has to offer in terms of cost-free natural attractions. Tybee has parks and playgrounds ready with sports courts, fields, playgrounds and picnicking for your outdoor enjoyment. Get the whole family together for a fun game of kickball, soccer or Frisbee at one of Tybee Island’s gorgeous parks.

3. Get a Great View at a Pier

Get extended views of the Atlantic Ocean on the gorgeous Tybee Pier & Pavilion. Entrance to the Pier & Pavilion is completely free, and it comes with picturesque, panoramic views of South Beach. Watch as enthusiastic fishers catch species like speckled trout and Spanish mackerel. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

4. Hike a Trail

Tybee has quite a few nature trails perfect for hiking, biking, and walking. These easy-to-walk trails are abundant in wildlife like birds and dolphins. Get in touch with nature, get a little exercise and enjoy the great outdoors on one of Tybee Island’s nature trails.

5. Attend a Free Event

Tybee Island loves getting the community together for a good time that won’t break the bank. The Shoppes at 1207 is known for throwing fun-filled events sans admission, like game days with prizes, pie baking contests and more. During the summer, the City of Tybee hosts free family-friendly movies in the park. All you need to do is pack a picnic blanket and some snacks! Keep an eye out for free events on our helpful event calendar.
