Eastern oysters are an essential keystone species in South Carolina’s estuarine systems. Our guest speaker, Gary Sundin, will explain the ecological importance of oysters in our natural systems, give a brief history of human-oyster interactions in South Carolina, and provide an overview of some of the SCDNR’s current research on wild oysters. Gary is a biologist with the Shellfish Research Section within the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
