Around town: Things to do this weekend in Beaufort

Here’s some of what’s taking place in Beaufort the weekend of September 27th. Fall is in the air and and the weekend temperatures will be in the low 80′s with plenty of sun and no rain in the forecast which makes it a perfect weekend to enjoy Beaufort’s many options of outdoor activities.

Take some time from your busy schedule and stroll along a bustling Bay Street or take a nice walk through Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. This weekend you can search through thousands of books at the Friends of the Beaufort Library’s Annual Fall Book Sale at the pavilion in the Park. Grab a good one and then grab a spot at the Waterfront and get working on chapter one.

Be a tourist in your own hometown and visit the Parris Island Museum, or take a drive out to Land’s End Beach or spend an afternoon collecting sharks teeth at The Sands in Port Royal.

Exploring historic Fort Fremont can lock up a few hours of your afternoon, and create memories your children won’t soon forget.

Enjoy our many important historical sites, or walk historic downtown Beaufort for part of an afternoon with some ice cream from Southern Sweets or a seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte from Common Ground Coffeehouse.

Of course the bustling Port Royal Farmers Market at the Naval Heritage Park on a Saturday morning is a must. The Market runs 8:30am to 12pm. Enjoy the area’s best selection of local produce, seafood, homemade artisan breads, cheeses, local honey and zillions of other things. With live music and a festive feel, it’s always a great spot to kick off your weekend.  And the fall season makes it even better.

You can find fantastic shopping options all over BeaufortKeep with the shopping theme and check out Beaufort’s many diverse thrift and antique shops, you’re bound to find the next project piece of furniture or outdoor decoration for your home.  And of course it’s always nice to get out and help the local economy.  Lots of the shops we all visit in Beaufort are owned by folks just like you and I.

If it’s live music you like, head on down to Paris Avenue in Port Royal for StreetMusic on Saturday evening and set up your camp chair alongside the throng of others and enjoy some seriously good blues music. It won’t cost you a penny. The StreetMusic Concert Series is a free event put on by ARTworks and the Town of Port Royal.  Gotta love it.

End your Saturday by taking part in some ballroom dancing at the Beaufort YMCA. The local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is dancing to raise funds. You don’t have to know how, just go, then you can take ballroom dancing off of that bucket list and contribute to a good cause at the same time.

Get out and enjoy beautiful Beaufort. There’s plenty to do at our parks, at the beach, downtown or anywhere you look. There are soVisit the Parris Island Museum. many options. You can check out our many fine golf courses, rent a kayak practically anywhere, or just get out into town and be social.
